A brief history

De Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was established in 1898, when Frank Seiberling acquired the first factory. Seiberling named his company after the courageous pioneer Charles Goodyear, the inventor of the vulcanisation process. He also decided on the striking Goodyear logo of the winged foot, which still forms a symbolic link to the company's past.

Goodyear started production with 13 labourers, manufacturing a range of bicycle and carriage tyres, horseshoe pads and poker chips. Since producing the very first bicycle tyre in 1898, Goodyear has gradually developed into the world's largest tyre manufacturer. This was already expressed in a slogan first presented in 1916: "More people ride on Goodyear tires than on any other kind." Goodyear became the world's largest rubber company in 1926. Goodyear's legendary first years saw the development of the approach that defines all aspects of the company and its relationships with its customers to this very day.
